Secretly, I hoped that one day NFS would reprise the ‘Unleashed’ name, but this time create ‘ Ferrari Unleashed‘ and eventually ‘ Porsche vs. There was only one problem though: where were the Ferraris? See, to me Porsche and Ferrari are two sides of the same coin: you can’t have one without the other, and each one compliments the other and gives it meaning. One of my all-time favourites was NFS Porsche Unleashed (see blog here), mainly because it gave me an opportunity to experience 50 years of Porsche racing innovation in one exciting package. I loved my first Test Drive game ( The Duel: Test Drive II), and I have never looked back having played most of the Need For Speed series, Simbin’s GTR series/ GT Legends, and ISI’s RFactor. Apart from the campaign mode the game offers Free Play where any unlocked car can be drive, as well as Online play for up to eight players in a single race.As I have written about in previous posts, my favourite gaming genre is car racing. There are over fifty Ferrari models to unlock and 36 classic racing tracks taken from real life. All the missions are loosely tied together by a storyline. The missions include beating lap times in a set number of laps, advancing a set number of positions with two laps left in a race, or trying to keep the distance to another car for a set number of laps. The player can switch between eras as they see fit but cannot progress in an era until the current mission is completed. The main campaign is divided into 3 eras Golden (1947 to 1973), Silver (1974 to 1990) and the Modern era (1991 to 2011). Players get to take every single Ferrari model ever made out onto the race track. Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends is a racing game based on a downgraded version of the SHIFT 2 Unleashed engine by the same development team.
